Yoann Kavege

Yoann Kavege is a young artist born in 1997 who has always practiced comics, from his annual projects – including the now unobtainable masterpiece “Galactic Balle-Assise” – to his animation studies at ESAAT (Roubaix), then the FNCD BD / BD Training at Auguste Renoir (Paris).

It was at this time that the Moon Deer project developed, between several short stories and experiments. This first story plays with genres and readers' expectations. Yoann mentions multiple inspirations: Jeff Smith and Akira Toriyama (for the effectiveness of the line), Fiona Staples, Linnea Sterte and Mathieu Bablet (for the richness of the universes), or Tradd Moore (for the creativity of the action scenes). If you meet him, you can suggest he go see Radiohead or the next Batman (a bio without Batman somewhere would be very unrepresentative of him.)

THE ORIGINS OF THE PROJECT
Yoann Kavege has been carrying Moon Deer in his head—and in the stars—since 2016. The project took time to grow as Yoann integrated new ideas from his sketches and animations. It was in 2021 that he found a final version of his story, now available in the form of a graphic novel of nearly 192 pages, all in color.
